What neurotoxins are
Botox Cosmetic, Dysport and Jeuveau are prescription botulinum toxin products used in aesthetic medicine. They temporarily reduce activity in selected muscles. Each product has its own labeling, formulation and approved indications; they are not interchangeable unit for unit.
A consultation determines whether a neurotoxin may be appropriate, which product may fit the plan and what areas can be considered. Some commonly discussed aesthetic uses may be off-label.
A movement-first consultation
Nada evaluates facial movement at rest and in expression, prior treatment response, medical history and the balance between nearby muscles. She also asks what has felt too strong, too subtle or simply not like you in the past.
Treatment is not appropriate for everyone. Potential adverse effects and contraindications are reviewed during the clinical consent process. Seek urgent medical care for concerning symptoms after treatment.
What to expect
If treatment is appropriate, the appointment includes cleansing, mapping and a series of small injections. Onset and duration vary by product and person, so follow the product-specific and practice-specific instructions Nada provides.
A follow-up may be recommended to assess the result after it has had time to develop. Avoid judging another patient’s dose or timeline as a guide for your own.
